Baby of the week: Carron tot Rio Zandbergen

The DETAILS: Rio James Karl Zandbergen was born on January 27, 2020 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at 5.42am, weighing 7lbs 10oz.

THE FAMILY: Mum Emma Matthews (30) is a senior support worker, while dad Colin Zandbergen (35) is a vehicle spray painter. Rio has a big sister Alana McEwan (14) and a brother Kian (12). The family live in Carron.

THE PREGNANCY: Mum said the pregnancy was really good initially. Towards the end however she was poorly as she had a gastric band that caused a lot of problems.

THE BIRTH: Mum was induced the week before her due date and everything went well.

THE NAME: Throughout the pregnancy mum and dad were going to call their baby River, but when Rio was born they felt the name didn’t suit him. They thought of Rio and felt it suited him. His middle names are after his grandparents.

THE BABY: Rio is a brilliant baby, a great sleeper and he’s got his very own character.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Joy and Karl Zandbergen and Selena Matthews.
