Army says thanks for long service to Carronshore soldier

A British soldier from Carronshore has received a medal in recognition of his service to the Army.

Warrant Officer Second Class James Girvan was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in a ceremony in Gütersloh, Germany after 15 years’ exemplary service.

James joined the Army in 2000 as an infantryman in the 1st Battalion The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). He then transferred into the Royal Logistics Corps in 2005 as a supply specialist.

James saw operational service in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan and major exercises in Kenya, Cyprus and Canada.

“I know I made the right decision in joining the Army,” said James. “I’ve been round the world, seen one or two things and done lots of things with my daughters I would not have managed to have done if I had a nine-to-five job.”

More recently, James twice served with 6th Regiment, The Royal Logistics Corps and travelled to Gütersloh to witness the farewell parade to mark the regiment leaving Germany.
