The Scottish SPCA normally wants people to think about the welfare of animals but later this year they want us to use the grey matter for an online fundraising quiz.

The charity has managed to secure the services of famous sports broadcaster Connie McLaughlin as host for the “pub quiz for pets” on April 1, which will be raising cash for Scotland’s animals, at a time when they are struggling due to the pandemic.

SSPCA want to make it clear, although set to take place on April Fool’s day, the quiz is no joke, even though it does guarantee an evening of free animal themed fun live on Facebook.

Anna Devine, SSPCA director of fundraising and marketing, said, “We couldn’t be happier to have Connie hosting our upcoming quiz. She is a passionate animal lover and participants will be in great hands, with her wealth of presenting experience on the BBC, BT Sport, and lots more, we know she will help make the event a success, and we are very excited to build this budding relationship.”

The quiz is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 1 at 7.30pm.

“It is completely free to take part, but we would love if participants could make a donation on the night,” said Anna. “All you need is a pen, paper, and some general knowledge…any animal related knowledge may be a bonus.”

Connie added: “I’m really excited to be presenting the Scottish SPCA’s inaugural pub quiz for pets. Everyone who knows me knows my love for all animals. I have my little rescue dog Luna who no doubt will make an appearance on the night.

“I really admire the work of the Scottish SPCA and I’m proud to be a supporter and say thanks for my family dogs Maddie and Snoop who both came from the centre in Hamilton over the years, and brought so much love.

“I’ll be doing this to raise awareness of abused, neglected and injured animals in the care of the Scottish SPCA. I look forward to seeing you there.”
