Park cash quest continues

Friends of Zetland Park launched a major fund raising drive last week in conjunction with Grangemouth Rotary Club and saw a large turnout for the cause – a mission to collect £25,000 to facilitate a grant application for the town’s Zetland Park.

Tom Brown, Friends of Zetland Park chairman, said: “The group has been challenged to raise £25,000 towards the £2.5 million Heritage Lottery project and had already received the encouraging news that the Rotary Club would donate £1 for every £2 the townsfolk could raise.

“Sandy Alexander, proud Portonian and founder of the shoe empire Schuh, came forward earlier that day with an offer of £5000. There were also donations of £80 from Lodge Zetland, a private donor came forward with a cheque for £200 and David Cowie of Zetland Bowling Club announced the club had raised £500.

“We express our deep gratitude to all who have donated – particularly Duncan Adams’ family, who donated the retiral collection at his funeral two weeks ago and seemed to stimulate an unprecedented display of generosity from organisations and individuals.”

The fundraisers are keen to build on this fast start and would appeal to people to come forward to help as Heritage Lottery look favourably on projects which have the support of the community.
