Wines which will last the distance

Wine, oh wonderful wine
Wine, oh wonderful wine

We are right in the middle of summer and, with a bit of luck, we’re enjoying long days in the sun - so a drink that will keep you going is on this week’s menu.

Lively and extremely approachable with baskets of juicy, jammy fruit, Tyrrell’s - Lost Block Heathcote Shiraz 2012, Australia (£13.50, www.winedirect.co.uk) offers generous flavours of black cherries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Simply mouthwatering.

Starting with lunch? Mr Noir Pinot Noir 2013, Victoria, Australia (£11.99, www.virginwines.co.uk) is a food-loving wine. Bright and youthful, it showcases cherry, raspberry and strawberry fruit with a delicate sweetness and firm, silky tannins to pair with veal, pork or grilled salmon with summer vegetables.

And, of course, Champagne is always great in the sun. Now Veuve Clicquot has released a sweet champagne specifically created for cocktails. Veuve Clicquot Rich, France (£60, Selfridges nationwide - coming soon) is designed to be combined with different ingredients, particularly with cocktails with grapefruit, pineapple, cucumber, celery, peppers and tea.
