What passport? Have you packed the Marmite?

Don't you just love electronic messaging? Be honest, of course you do!

Me being honest, not so much - but I have to admit I’m now appreciating emails can indeed come in handy.

Not sending mind, more receiving some unsolicited info that could be useful when it comes to thoughts on how to fill this much-read column ...

Anyway, of all the communications fired my way, at the touch of a button and mainly uninvited, one has arrived I can actually use.

It comes compliments of Saga Travel Insurance which, they tell me, is a Which?-recommended provider and Defaqto five-star rated.

What caught my interest was information on what over 50s are likely to pack in their suitcase when they go on holiday.

Being over 50, I felt qualified (well qualified actually) to read on.

Saga says that tea bags, cereal, chocolate, Marmite, photos of their pet and family, although not in any order of preference, and even their own pillow all feature on the ‘must take’ list.

In addition, they advise that, while we are doing all that, some holiday essentials including sun cream, phone chargers (that’s an essential?) and travel adapters (ditto) are being left behind.

Saga says such oversights are common because us over 50s “get excited” about going away so has launched a trip planner website allowing access to ready made packing lists to ensure we actually travel with everything we really need. It can also be used to buy travel insurance (surprise), check the status of our flight and find out what the weather will be like when we reach our destination.

I’m happy to share all that with you.
