Trip to London taught me valuable lesson

Early in May me and the Mrs took a break from it all and headed to London for the weekend.

The sun was shining as we flew from Glasgow to Stanstead and was, amazingly, still splitting the trees by the time we reached our hotel in London Victoria.

Arriving early on the Sunday morning we immediately dropped our bags off and headed out to the streets, map in hand, and became the most clueless tourists.

The big city certainly was a change from the simple streets we were used to and a map is only as good as the person reading it. Eventually, though, we found ourselves at the Thames and took in the many sights in front of us.

The camera roll was filled with pictures of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and, of course, selfies on Westminster Bridge.

We then had a go on the London Eye and up in the sky took in the 360 degree view of the capitol city.

After a day of sightseeing in the sun, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner and a show.

The whole reason for the trip was to see a live show on stage, everything else was just an added bonus.

I hoped the show would be worth getting up at 4am to fly to London on a Ryanair flight; that the seats, which I paid extra for, would be worth the money and that, most of all, we would have a good time.

So imagine my disappointment when I discovered the tickets I had bought were for March and not May.

The fact that it was a Sunday night really should have tipped me off, sadly though it hadn’t.

So the lesson here is always double check dates when booking and save yourself not only money but also embarrassment.
