Text of the week

'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 10 v 9/10)

Throughout life we have to face and handle expectations, whether it is in business life, family life or personal experience.

The biggest challenge sometimes for teachers, parents and even grandparents, is how to handle the expectations of children. I have learned in recent years the challenge as a grandparent in handling these expectations to be quite tough. Providing for family needs is important, but do I always give in easily to provide what is asked for? Do I attempt to please quickly to appease expectations? We need to teach values in the handling of these types of expectations.

In the short passage of God’s word, in which the text above is contained, Jesus teaches the value of committing big decisions to God in prayer. Is Jesus saying that we will always get what we ask for?

No, not in the material sense, but he is clearly directing our attention to the fact that our spiritual destiny is in His hands, we simply need to ask for it. Ask, seek and knock on the door of Jesus heart and you will find entry to a completely different set of values and expectations.

A life dedicated to Jesus, is exciting and full of surprises that daily surpass our expectations.
