'He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.' (Matthew 22:3)

A man came to read my meter recently, spoke about the weather, said he was going on holiday the next week and stated he was glad to get away “from this muck heap”.

I don’t share his opinion of our area. I did however visit the town centre the other day and couldn’t help but notice how many people had sad faces.

My wife and I walked the West Highland Way in May.

While climbing Conic Hill, we met two American cardiologists and shared stories of life and faith. One recommended a DVD called A River Runs Through It.

While watching the film, I was touched by two of the characters lamenting on how difficult it is to help people who don’t want help.

This brings me back to our text.

In the passage, Jesus is teaching about God’s kingdom being like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for His son.

All the King (God) wanted to do, was bless the guests, but they made excuses or ignored the invitation, and mistreated or killed His servants.

Recently I read a statement about trust – “You go to a doctor whose name you can’t pronounce, get a prescription you can’t read, take it to a pharmacist you don’t know, get medicine you don’t understand, and take it with confidence”.

I would far rather accept the invitation from the God who made me and loves me, and place my whole life and future in His hands.

How about you?
