‘Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.’ (1st Kings 8 verse 56)

Recently we voted for a new Scottish Government, with SNP the winners; pre-election they made many manifesto promises. But with the best intentions and careful planning they cannot guarantee to deliver on all their promises.

Due to the unknown influences that will arise, affecting those promises; only some will come to pass. All voters can expect is that politicians make their best effort in serving the people of Scotland and not always accord to their political beliefs.

Our text shows a different kind of 100 per cent fulfilment of promises, given by Almighty God, the creator and sustainer. Many promises were given over 100s of years that were fulfilled about the person and saving work Jesus Christ.

Jesus himself gave promises that are set out for us in the Bible and are still being fulfilled in people’s lives today. Jesus said, ‘And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.’ ‘The thief’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.’ (John 17:3 & John 10:10)

From one of Jesus’ disciples, ‘And this is what he promised us - eternal life.’ (1 John 2:25)

Believing and trusting the promises Jesus made makes a difference to the life now lived and forevermore.

Jesus gives fulness of life, the freedom to know God and the guarantee of eternal life. It’s available to everyone by believing and asking.
