‘...nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ (Romans 8v39)
I heard a story recently which I thought had much to say about God’s love for each one of us.
One day a father was having a pillow fight with his young daughter whose treasured possession was a pretty china doll which she loved very much.
The pillow fight was all in fun of course, but gradually got wilder. Unfortunately, as the father swung his pillow back he caught the china doll. Tragically it fell to the floor and was broken to pieces.
The daughter immediately burst into tears. “I’m so sorry,” said the father. “I’ll buy you another one.” “No,” said the daughter. “That’s the one I love.” The father felt really terrible that his daughter was so upset and so he secretly gathered the pieces of the doll and glued them back together again. Sadly the doll still looked a bit of a mess but he gave it to his daughter anyway and said, “I’m sorry, it still looks broken and there are bits missing. “Wouldn’t you prefer a new one?” When the daughter saw her doll she said, “No, Dad - I can still love her even though she has been broken.”
The message of the story is - you are the one God loves and whatever has happened in the past – however broken you feel, He can put you back together again.
