‘Jesus did not answer her a word.’ (Matthew 15: 23)
This scripture tells us of a distraught woman whose daughter was in a desperate condition.
This heartbroken mother comes to Jesus and cries out to Him for mercy and for help.
Surprisingly, Jesus ignores her. Jesus did not answer her a word.
Sometimes we cry out to God for help and God seems to be indifferent to our need.
God seems to be silent when what we long for is a “word from the Lord”.
For we know that one word from Christ, just one word, can make everything all right.
Jesus longs to speak that creative word, that healing word, that delivering word; even more than we long to hear Him speak. Like the woman, we must not be put off when Jesus does not answer us a word, but we must press through to great faith: “Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, and looks to that alone; laughs at impossibilities and cries, ‘It shall be done!’” Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted!”
And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
