“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5)
Not long ago, on a holiday in the south of Spain, my wife and I decided to go for a little drive one day.
We should have looked at the map more closely – it turned out our ‘little drive’ took us along a terrifying road over a mountain the height of Ben Nevis.
The road twisted and turned constantly, perilous drops everywhere, until we found ourselves coming over the pass at the top and watching eagles soaring far below us!
We simply took on far more than we had bargained for.
For many of us, life takes all sorts of twists and turns that we could never have imagined.
The promise of Proverbs 3, that God will make straight paths for those who trust him, does not mean that life will always be easy for God’s people.
But it does mean that he will always lead us, wherever life’s road takes us, and will never leave us.
Those who trust in the Lord and depend on his leading, especially as he speaks through his Word the Bible, will not find themselves lost and helpless.
He will see his children safely home.
