Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2 v 15).
Here we are again in the midst of Commonwealth Games, where each competitor aspires to achieve their best irrespective of ability.
We have top professionals highly trained and equipped joining together with less able to provide a combined spectacle for those watching and supporting.
It was clearly evident at the events I saw that the support for the weaker individual or team was just as strong, if not stronger than for the top athletes. This is very encouraging and heart warming. And so it is with the encouragement we get from God as we strive to serve him, in the best way we can, particularly with regard to how we handle the word of truth.
The words of encouragement the Apostle Paul gave to his young student Timothy, were outstanding - do your best; feel approved; be not ashamed.
And so, as all the athletes compete feeling fully approved having done their best, so much more should we strive to do our best and feel approved by God in handling his precious word.
