Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1)

Following great anticipation, the Queen’s Baton Relay visited Falkirk on Tuesday.

Were you aware that it was coming to Falkirk? Did you see it?

Or as far as you were concerned, was it irrelevant.

The reason it has visited so many communities, is to promote the Glasgow Commonwealth Games but a more important reason is to encourage people to take up some form of exercise and keep physically fit, in a day when many are living a sedentary life.

Our text of the week speaks to Christians about encouragement, endeavour and earnestness.

Encouragement from the “great cloud of witnesses”. Endeavour tells us to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that easily entangles”.

Earnestness means “running with perseverance” the course of life mapped out by God for us.

I am delighted that you are reading this item. However, you might not have started on the Christian journey.

Be assured God loves you and Christ died for you.

The living Lord Jesus wants to be an essential part of your life, so ask Him to forgive your sins and come into your life. Start the journey today!
