Sophie's column: Siberia, take your weather back!

In my almost 21 years, I've never seen Scotland on lockdown as much as I have over the last few days.

The heavens have opened and down has poured the snow, resulting in the majority of the population being stuck in their houses, unable to dig themselves out of their beds, let alone their front doors.

I’m stuck in my friend’s flat in Glasgow with a couple of other pals. Our cheerleading competition has been cancelled, our spirits are low and all we want to do is snuggle on the couch and watch films.

As much as we’re looking forward to being cooped up with a cuppa and some junk food, I can’t help but feeling a bit ‘over it.’

I’ve never been someone who’s let snow get me down. In fact, I’ve always been the first to round up the troops, grab a sledge and head to a hill to spend the day.

Today though, I can’t help but feel so deflated by the whole weather situation.

Maybe it’s something to do with the time of year – I mean, surely the majority of the snow should’ve passed before the very end of February.

Being stuck in a high floor flat in the middle of Glasgow isn’t exactly an ideal situation either. Why can’t we control the weather?

This ice blast would’ve been perfect on Christmas Day, spent in the house with the whole family, playing with the puppy who, for the record, is a springer spaniel and not a spaniel cross as I wrote last week, but on February 28? Not so much.

I’m not a big bah-humbug and I’m sure in an hour or so I’ll have eaten so many snacks I’ll feel one million times better.

I just think snow is best appreciated during the normal winter months. March is for drizzly rain and cloudy days, not for being snowed in. Siberia: take your weather back, please!
