Haven’t we been so lucky in the past few weeks! I can never remember Scotland having a sunny spell that’s lasted quite this long before in the 19 years I’ve been on this planet.
I never expected to be walking around my back garden with a bikini on for almost two weeks straight, but somehow that has been the case. I even managed to catch something of a base tan colour on my usually peely-wally white arms before I jet off on holiday for a week in the Canaries on Saturday. One thing is for certain – the sunshine is more than welcome here in Scotland.
People tend to become more chatty and friendly when they’re basking in glorious daylight
I never realised the complete positive change the sun brings to people until I started waitressing – the good weather really does bring out the best in everyone.
People tend to become more chatty and friendly when they’re basking in glorious daylight compared to the grey skies we usually see and that makes my job a lot easier!
Working alongside colleagues and customers who are in a good mood equally helps put us in an even better mood – despite the fact we’re wishing we were outside enjoying the weather too!
Although the weather has its perks, it’s brought a tough reminder that we need to be extra careful in the sun.
Both my mum and brother are now funny shades of pink and red because they haven’t used any sun protection and resultantly now have to walk around looking like peeled tomatoes. I haven’t as of yet – touch wood – been victim to any Scottish sunburn.
I have absolutely no idea what the next few weeks will hold in terms of the weather.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we woke up to snow next week, but we’ll have to wait and see.
One thing is for certain though – this week of sunniness has been welcomed with open arms by the people of Scotland.
I just hope the big man in the sky who controls the weather realises this and grants us the gift of more sunshine for a little while longer.
