Sign of the times or all in my head?

Is anyone else having serious trouble getting out of bed in the morning?

In the past two weeks, this normally-simple task has been akin to scaling Everest (not that I’ve ever climbed Everest but I imagine it would be pretty tricky).

I’m putting it down to a slow but steady change of the seasons, and I don’t like it.

After a longer than planned visit to the new M&S food store the other night, I found myself driving home in the dark.

The street lights were on, my head lights were on properly and it wasn’t even 7.30pm.

And it’s not even October yet.

I have mentioned it before, but I am definitely affected by the thought of six months of dark nights.

Think they call it Seasonally Affected Depression or SAD, and sad it is.

Like the best of flowers, I completely wilt without sunlight.

I believe it’s completely unnatural for humans to have nothing but the artificial light of the office of then the home all day.

So, I fear not being able to get out of bed is a SAD symptom, but there’s worse to come.

Last winter I gained more weight than I care to reveal.

I also did little more of an evening that watch the latest box set on TV.

It was depressing, unfulfilling and mostly boring.

But before I drag you down with me, I think there is going to be light at the end of the tunnel.

I was speaking to some of my ever-lovely and patient pals last week, and decided to reveal my winter fears.

“Kate, if you know this is coming, take action now. It’s completely in your head so shake things up.”

She has a point. Perhaps another reason why I feel like my bed is covered in Velcro is because I have a very strong lazy streak.

Usually I can control it, but when the dreaded winter creeps up on me, it’s far easier to succumb to the charms of doing not very much at all.

So, I have been doing some research and identified a few new hobbies I’d like to try this winter.

I also think a wee winter getaway is a good idea – it’s always sunny somewhere, after all.

I’m also not going to avoid talking about Christmas just because it always costs me more money than I budget for.

I have gorgeous grandchild, and never do they smile brighter than during the run up to Christmas, and that’s something I never get bored of.

So, and I say this with some trepidation, but, here goes – Winter Do Your Worst!
