“The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us.” (John 1:14)

I have several recipe books and sometimes I like to try to cook up something new for an evening meal, and I especially like when the recipe has a picture so that I know what the dish is supposed to look like when it’s actually finished. Sometimes people wonder what God is like and picture him as some old man with a long white beard sitting on a golden throne.

If we are wondering what God is like then Christians believe that all we need do is look to Jesus to see what God is like.

He wept when his friends were sad, he rejoiced when his friends were glad, he welcomed into his company people whom the rest of society didn’t have much time for, he questioned the systems of the day when people were treated unfairly, he lifted up the poor, he looked upon all people as being equal, he stretched out his hand to the sick and those in need, he had love and compassion, even for those who would deny, betray and put him on a Cross.

Put all these ingredients, and more, into the pot and Jesus portrays a wonderful picture of God!
