The unit will be inspecting licensed premises, undertaking general patrols and assisting local officers.

The assistance of national units in local initiatives underpins the valuable support that can be accessed from the Police Scotland network.

Also next week, the national Air Weapon Surrender Campaign will commence, finishing three weeks later on June 12.

This is in preparation for The Air Weapon and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015, which takes effect on July 1 which will make it an offence for a person to use, possess, purchase or acquire an air weapon without holding an air weapon certificate.

The surrender campaign will allow individuals and groups not wishing to retain air weapons the opportunity to hand-in and surrender their weapons in a safe, secure and efficient manner at designated police offices.

The designated office for the Falkirk area is Falkirk Police Office, West Bridge Street, FK1 5AP.

You can also surrender air weapons at offices in Stirling, Alloa, Balfron and Callander.
