POLICE CALL: Tackling drugs

Last week I had the pleasure of patrolling in Falkirk town centre with the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson MSP.

Among many matters discussed were the concerns of local residents.

I highlighted the Falkirk City Centre Policing Plan which operates at weekends through to 4am.

Officers on high visibility patrols ensure that Falkirk town centre maintains its vibrant night time economy in a safe and supported fashion.

With three nightclubs, various restaurants and bars full at weekends it confirms how Falkirk has become a safer place to enjoy a night out.

With the new school term underway I also discussed with the Cabinet Secretary how school-based officers bring real value.

With an officer in all eight Falkirk Council high schools it is helping to develop long lasting relationships, trust and community spirit.

We also discussed the issue of drugs and combating the problem in the Falkirk area.

In recent weeks officers have been targeting drug use and drug dealing and have had some notable successes.

This will continue as it was one of the priorities you told us was important, via the Police Scotland Your View Counts online survey.
