POLICE CALL: Tackle hate crimes by reporting them

I recently attended a public meeting where some people voiced their concerns regarding recent hate crime incidents.

Falkirk officers robustly investigate reported hate crimes and the current detection rate confirms the efforts made in addressing what is an unacceptable and unpleasant crime.

When an incident does occur, it is essential that any victim, witness or other party has the confidence to report the matter.

One way to report it is via a third party reporting centre, the availability of which is intended to increase victims’ confidence and raise awareness in the community.

Every report of hate crime assists us in tackling it – providing information which can ultimately lead to detection and prosecution.

Third party reporting offers victims or witnesses of hate crime the opportunity to report incidents, outwith a police environment.

There are more than 300 designated reporting centres, where trained members of staff can support the victim or witness, take the report in confidence and forward the information to the police.

For more information and contact details for these centres, click the third party reporting logo on the Police Scotland website.
