Police Call: Proud of staff and our communities

From Wednesday through to Saturday morning the weather was dreadful and the roads treacherous.

Hopefully, many of you managed to view it all from the comfort of home.

But for various reasons, a few drivers and pedestrians ventured out and some, unfortunately, had long delays on snow blocked roads while others managed to get home just before roads became impassable.

In the subsequent days there has been widespread coverage of the efforts of the emergency services staff in getting to work.

I was proud of all the efforts made by our officers and staff – some walked, others hitched lifts and many availed themselves of the offers from colleagues of a lift in their 4 x 4 vehicles.

It would be remiss of me, however, not to highlight the efforts of our communities; the work undertaken to clear paths and roads, both for emergency vehicles and for vulnerable residents.

The emergency services do not work alone.

Without everyone’s help and efforts last week the bad weather could have had more serious outcomes.
