Co-ordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration saw hundreds of organisations getting involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for young people.

It offered the division a chance to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community.

The day called on young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, private companies and more to play their part.

Internet safety continues to present challenges as its increased use provides further opportunities for criminals to exploit our apparent disregard for our personal safety online.

The challenges transcend all ages but taking some small steps can reduce the risk.

Many internet providers offer parental controls and advice in locking down your wifi network and work with Police Scotland where crime has been committed to attempt to trace the offender.

Never give out your personal details and be wary of SPAM. If the email looks too good to be true, it probably is.
