POLICE CALL: Fighting abuse of Blue Badge scheme

On January 25, 2016, Police Scotland were granted access to the Blue Badge Improvement Service (BBIS) database which will allow Falkirk Officers to quickly identify people who abuse the Blue Badge scheme. The agreement, with all 32 local authorities in Scotland, now means that officers can access real-time information on the Blue Badge Improvement Service database, allowing them to quickly identify people who are abusing the scheme.

The database was introduced as part of the Blue Badge Scheme and contains information on all blue badges issued in Scotland together with the terms or conditions placed upon the badge. By having access to the database, officers will be able to access information quickly if they believe that a badge is being misused.

Speeding remains a real community concern and a priority for officers in Falkirk. Officers have been out for the last few months deploying to areas of local concern, addressing speeding issues and where appropriate educating drivers on the dangers of speed. Falkirk remains a safe place with many drivers adhering to the limits but their remains a minority who continue to drive too quickly both for stated speed limits but also road conditions and driver ability. Officers will continue to carry out enforcement, reduced speed saves lives and keep our streets safer for all.
