Police Call: Drink driving is on the increase in Falkirk

Winter is upon us with the clocks going back and most of us travelling back and forward to work in the darkness and inclement weather.

Officers from the roads policing unit provide some useful tips on bad weather driving on the Force website including what to do in the event of aquaplaning.

Advice includes maintaining a gap between vehicles to reduce surface spray, keeping headlights on when driving in winter to increase visibility and ensuring your vehicle is ready for winter by checking tyre tread depth and that windscreen wiper blades do not need renewed. Small steps can make a huge difference to all our safety.

Worryingly, I’ve noted an increase in detections for drunk driving in the Falkirk command area recently and officers will be pro-actively deployed over the coming weeks to address this.

If you choose to drink and drive there is every likelihood you will be caught. The consequences can be catastrophic, affecting current and future employment with wider implications for family life too.

To report drink driving call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
