Phones are safest when out of sight

Road safety remains a priority in Falkirk area command and officers are committed to ensuring our roads are as safe as they can be.

Enforcement activity is ongoing with regards excess speed, drink driving and the use by members of the public of vehicles which are uninsured/untaxed.

Officers have also been targeting the use of mobile phones or hand held devices when driving, which unfortunately continues to be a routine part of their day.

At the start of this month new legislation was introduced which increased the fixed penalty fine levels for road traffic offences involving the use of mobile phone and handheld devices.

The penalty has risen from three to six points and the fine from £100 to £200.

Despite this increase, officers are still having to stop drivers who continue to use their phones or hand held devices while driving.

Officers have previously attended road accidents where the cause of the accident has been suspected or proven to be the use of a phone or device which has distracted the driver.

The safest place for your mobile phone when driving is out of sight, to avoid any temptation.
