In My View: The good, the bad and the ugly of beautiful game

I’ll go in reverse order and start with the ugly which was the violence during the pitch invasion which marred the Scottish Cup Final following Hibs’ win over Rangers on Saturday.

Now, Hibs hadn’t won this particular piece of silverware for over 100 years so I can understand fans losing the plot a little, but it got out of hand quite quickly and that is the danger these situations can descend into.

Attacking opposing players by fans is simply not on and I hope those responsible are given the justice they deserve for their actions.

The bad – obviously Falkirk losing 4-0 to Kilmarnock was a blow as having the Bairns in the SPFL Premiership would have been a major boost for this community.

What saddened me most of all about this game though was the actions of a notorious Killie fan, Gordon Sawers, who was ‘flung oot’ of the stadium following a spat with Falkirk’s John Baird.

The guy just would not take a telling and was forced out, but the depressing thing was seeing his young son trying to calm him down and then crying in the stand after stewards had taken his dad away. What kind of example is that to set any youngster?

The good – back to Hibs. My girlfriend’s family are all massive Hibees. I wasn’t flavour of the month with them when I was cheering on Falkirk during the play-offs, but I was happy seeing how overjoyed they were with their cup win and they all travelled into Edinburgh on the Sunday for the open top bus parade, which was peaceful thankfully.

Now that’s what the beautiful game is all about.
