In My View: Falkirk's Houston to Hearts makes no sense for me

Some would argue that he should have been given more than the seven months he has had to stamp his authority on the team.

However, dismal performances on the park including being dumped out of the Betfred Cup by Dunfermline last weekend has proved to be too much for the board.

Inevitably bookies have chalked up the runners and riders to succeed Cathro and the usual names are swirling around.

It’s no surprise to see Paul Hartley as one of the contenders – a former player and good reputation as an up and coming manager despite being sacked by Dundee. He’s joint favourite alongside Jon Daly who could make the step up from Under 20s coach and would fit the managerial model that the club have, with Craig Levein being the director of football.

Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald continues to be linked with a bigger move after he steered the Jags to their best ever finish in the Premiership last season when they came sixth.

But a name on that list which is striking is Falkirk boss Peter Houston. Granted he was approached by Hearts under the old regime but surely the ‘Ginger God’ has unfinished businesses with the Bairns who are desperate to seal promotion to the top flight?

They have improved the squad with Rory Loy returning and Craig Sibbald staying and, having had to contend with Hearts, Hibernian and Rangers in recent seasons, this would go down as Falkirk’s best chance to win the Championship.

Surely Houston wouldn’t want to miss out on that?
