‘When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.’ (Ps 104:30)

This Sunday Christians celebrate the feast of Pentecost, 50 days after Easter.

On the first Pentecost the disciples gathered in the upper room experienced in a unique way the Spirit of the risen Jesus.

They were radically transformed – instead of being anxious and afraid, they had the courage to proclaim in public their faith in Jesus who had risen from the dead, the courage to proclaim that the one thing that really matters in life is to know and live in union with Jesus.

The Spirit of the risen Jesus is given to all who are baptised and we too should have the courage to proclaim our faith in Jesus.

And our faith in Jesus helps us to appreciate God’s presence in all creation, in all that exists, to enjoy the things of this world in the way God wants them to be enjoyed, and to use them for the good of all people.

Come, Holy Spirit, more deeply into our lives, not just this Pentecost but each day of our lives on this earth.
