Kelpies Canter can make a difference

At Christian Aid we insist the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.

We work globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.

We are part of a wider movement for social justice and provide urgent, practical and effective assistance where need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes.

Locally we have organised an event, in partnership with churches in Falkirk, Denny, Dunipace, Larbert and Haggs, called the Kelpies Canter – a special one, two or three mile sponsored walk around the Helix Park and the Kelpies which takes place on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.

As well as the sponsored walks there will be lots of fun activities for children on the day including face painting, a scavenger hunt and a horse mascot to have pictures taken with.

Money raised from the day will go towards Christian Aid’s long term development work, which includes assisting our partners in Kenya who are helping communities adapt to the effects of climate change.

There they have built sand dams to hold water closer to the homes of people in rural communities and also trained them on using seeds which are drought resistant so farmers are able to yield larger and more diverse crops.

This generates a better and more sustainable income which can pay for their children’s education and a healthier quality of life.

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality.

Since April 2012, Christian Aid’s work has been focused around the goals and objectives identified in our corporate strategy, Partnership for change – the power to end poverty.

We could not achieve this without the support of people who take part in events like Saturday’s Kelpie Canter and our annual Forth Bridge Cross in April.

We are lucky the Falkirk area is full of fantastic supporters and delighted they are getting behind this new family fun event.

The Kelpies Canter is part of our Another Way series of events that works with our supporters across a broad range of activities to give, act and pray for a more just world.

We look forward to having children from across the area including Larbert, Falkirk and Denny as well as people from the local foodbank to support the Kelpies Canter on Saturday.
