Letter from the Editor: Lost in the world of paint colours

I do recall investing a lot of money in a carpet that would probably still have plenty of wear left in it but which, given its garish pattern, most likely ended up in a skip many years ago.

And, I occasionally get a flashback of the wallpaper border I was so proud of at the time but wouldn’t be allowed across my threshold now.

What I can’t remember is what colour of paint I used on the walls, but I can be fairly sure that it came from a limited palette which didn’t include the likes of Hugs & Kisses, Mermaid’s Net or Potentially Purple.

And if any Mayonnaise did adorn my walls it came from an over-exhuberant shake of the bottle rather than any artistic choice of colouring.

Just exactly when did this paint explosion take place?

Where once there was a row of tins and a simple chart, now there’s a vast array of little cards containing every colour under the sun (not to mention fluorescent light as you can check how it will look under that as well).

As regular readers will know, we’ve recently moved house and we’re keen to recreate the colour that adorned the walls of one of the bedrooms in our previous home.

I’d describe it as sky blue but its official title was Steel Symphony.

Apparently, however, such a colour is now longer produced so we had to go with another option. After much deliberation we ended up with Lauren’s Surprise, which I’d describe as ... sky blue.
