Letter from the Editor: Is it Brexit or staying in?

Then there are those who say they won’t bother going to the polling station to cast their vote.

There’s no prizes for apathy. No matter how much you may have ‘voting fatigue’, I always believe that if you don’t bother to turn up to make your mark then you don’t have a right to complain afterwards.

Sadly that isn’t usually the case.

But back to the question of staying in the European Union or leaving.

It basically comes down to who do you believe. There’s been a lot of rhetoric, but also a lot of hot air voiced by both sides.

You look at the politicians and it’s difficult to decide which ones you want to believe.

Do I want to side with Boris Johnson or Nigel Farage? But then again do I believe David Cameron or George Osborne?

It’s a tough one and, for every argument put forward by either side, their opponents have a ready response in an attempt to sway us.

I had decided to ignore the politicians and instead make up my mind from what is being said by the ‘experts’, but then again which of them can you trust?

I’m old enough to remember when Edward Heath took us into the European Community in 1973 and the referendum two years later when Harold Wilson gave the public their chance to decide.

Then two-thirds of those voting wanted to remain in Europe, this time around I’m not so sure it will be as clear cut.
