Last Glasgow gig was alarming to say the least

The band and I are about to play our first gig together in that live music mecca Glasgow.

It’s the first time we’ve played together in the city, but it’s going to be my second gig in bonny Glesga.

I can’t even remember where the first one was – it might have been a joint called Pivo Pivo – but I remember what happened alright.

It was a few years back when I was murdering the guitar with another blues rock outfit and we landed a spot on the bill of a charity or showcase night or something, with a few more groups playing on the night.

The trauma of getting to the city via motor car in the first place – something I never have got the hang of – and carrying my amp and guitar case to the venue faded away as I began to enjoy the night, getting the old tingly tangly, jingly jangly feeling of anticipation of playing in front of folk.

Then, just before we were about to go on, the fire alarm went off and we all had to vacate the venue and take in the night air as fire appliance after fire appliance arrived on the scene.

It turned out to be a minor matter and we all trudged back into the gig.

We did our best, but how can you win back a crowd who have just been outside enjoying top banter and the excitement of a potential emergency situation?

I believe the word I’m searching for is anti-climax.

It’s been a few years and a couple of bands down the line and now I’m heading back for another strum in Glasgow.

After a year or so of playing everything from hot dog cafe’s to the smallest pub in the history of the world in Alloa, we finally landed a gig at an actual bona fide music venue.

Let’s hope this time it’s just a night of the blues and not blue lights.
