So years of sitting in front of a screen have finally caught up with me as I discovered this week – I need to wear glasses.
The issue with my eyes has probably not been helped by being sat behind a computer screen five days a week since last August, although if it is a choice between no glasses or a job, its an easy decision for me to make.
The only reason I went for an eye test in the first place was from parents encouraging/nagging me to and I now encourage everyone to make use of the free eye tests available to ensure there are no hidden problems with your eyes.
So for the first time since primary school I was sat in an opticians trying my best to read letters off a wall and I was amazed at how much I struggled.
The optometrist began placing different lenses in front of my newly discovered failing eyes to see what exactly was wrong with me.
Turns out I have latent longsightedness ... means nothing to me either and after a very confusing explanation from the expert, it still means nothing to me.
One thing I did know was that I was getting glasses and I had to step into the shop to pick out frames for the newest fixture on my face I will need for the rest of my life.
After hearing the encouraging words of ‘you look weird with glasses’ and ‘at least you don’t have braces as well’ from my partner I made my decision and will be picking them up next week.
The saving grace is I will now be joining the majority of people in my work and unlike school there will be no cries of four-eyes and oi speccy, hopefully.
And eventually I guess it will become weirder to see me without glasses than with, I just hope it doesn’t take too long.
