I can now add writing a CV to my CV for job hunt

I have never experienc-ed properly searching for a job before.

For years, I’ve coasted by with the two jobs I have – coaching and column writing – but now I feel there is a calling for a new, fresh type of employment to add to my list of jobs.

It’s about time too, with all these new responsibilities I have, the realisation that being a grown-up means having a considerable amount of money in the bank has finally hit me.

Job hunting is something that I have simply avoided since I started working at 14. My coaching, column writing and a brief waitressing job all came around only because I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

I’d never had any sort of interview until a couple of months ago for university, let alone even contemplate distributing a CV around local businesses. I had never even written a CV until this week.

Actually writing the CV itself proved quite challenging. I thought it would be a walk in the park, but trying to make sense of facts in my head and then communicating them effectively on a piece of paper to make an employer want to employ me is something I have found ridiculously difficult.

Knowing that someone is going to judge your ability to perform a certain job well on the basis of your writing skills is really quite daunting, if I’m honest.

A lack of confidence is making me dread handing my CV out to prospective employers, but I’m almost 18 and the time really has come to step it up a level, and finally get myself out there.

To tell the truth, the prospects of new employment is something which really exited me. It’s just the path to that new goal that scares me a little. I’ve been putting it off for so long, but it’s time to bite the bullet.
