Having a Lot of fun with auctions

A few news stories caught my eye this week - and they were all about age.

The first was that, if you are about to turn 60, then it’s OK to be a wee bit plump.

The report said that, around this age and for a variety of reasons, you may actually need a few extra calories.

Hooray!

The article actually suggested enjoying foods as they were meant to be enjoyed; that is in their full-fat state.

Then we go on to story number two.

This was one of these happiness surveys that pops up every now and again.

It said that those between the ages of 45 and 59 were the least satisfied with life, and also experienced higher levels of anxiety.

It also went on to say that people who were single or divorced were also much less happy than married folk.

So, that means that, at the moment, and as I fall into both these categories, I should be pretty darn miserable.

Not so.

You see, Monday was February 1, and when you have been doing Dry January - as I have - then that date is a glorious one.

Yes, dear reader, after 31 alcohol-free days, last night I had no anxiety whatsoever as I settled down with a perfectly chilled glass of Sauvignon blanc.

This rather delightful bottle, purchased from M&S last weekend in preparation for the first of Feb, had been bought using my latest earnings from eBay.

It appears that, perhaps during December, I may have over indulged in doing, well nothing.

I had enjoyed sitting on my sofa, watching bad TV and partaking of a small refreshment of the alcoholic variety before bed.

So, as well as banning the booze in January, I banned the TV too.

This left lots of evenings free to actually do fun things – go to the cinema, go to the gym, take an evening stroll, and clean out my cupboards.

I’m proud to say that I support various charities, and usually, when I have a clear out, one of them receives a lorry load of filled bin bags.

But a friend of mine had said recently she was having enormous fun flogging clothes that were four years old and three sizes too small on the online auction site.

So, with some time on my hands, I got busy and made £100 pounds from selling a few things that I will not miss.

The money also paid for a lovely new dress, a cracking mirror from the Laura Ashley sale, and a visit to the hairdressers.

No matter what your age, that’s got to make you smile.
