Getting fired up on punk nostalgia

With not long till Christmas, you may be wondering what to get the music fan in you life. Bad news then: some of rock's most collectable items are off the market.

In what might be an act against materialism, or just a fit of pique, Joe Corré has torched all his father’s punk memorabilia. The son of legendary Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren owned an estimated £5M worth of vinyl, posters and clothing, but he has committed to, in true punk style, destroying the lot.

McLaren Sr. coined the “Cash From Chaos” slogan, but his offspring has, it seems, decided that this goes against punk’s nihilistic philosophy.

Corré’s beef is actually with Punk London, an admittedly improbable celebration of 40 years of spit and snot, supported by the likes of the British Library and the Museum of London and dating back to when Boris Johnston was Mayor.

So rather than auction off the acetate of ‘Anarchy In The UK’ for charity, young Mr McLaren decided to flambé the whole collection.

But if Corré really wants to hit the establishment where it hurts most, why not burn down Buckingham Palace instead?

It was outside the Queen’s big house that his father pulled off one of his most famous stunts. Plus, with all those imminent repairs, he’d save the nation a lot more than the price of an old 7” single.
