Force is strong with this one

There was big news for sci-fi fans across the globe this week as the new trailer for Star Wars was released and I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel just a tad excited.

I place myself firmly in the category of geek when it comes to this franchise as I know the story inside out, from characters like the pod-race wheeler-dealer Watto to places like Alderaan where Princess Leia grew up.

However, maybe the reason I am most excited is I am finally going to experience a Star Wars trilogy that is not a massive disappointment.

Unlike some fellow reporters in the office, I was born too late to experience the glory of the original trilogy in the cinema, the best out of the two in many fans opinion.

What I got to ‘enjoy’ was three movies that lacked any real substance, relied too heavily on special effects and had some terrible acting, mainly from a young Darth Vader in the form of Hayden Christensen.

I only got to watch the original trilogy on video after many pointless and simply pathetic effects had been added in, Greedo shooting before Han being top of the list.

So I am looking forward to what looks to be a very promising re-boot of the franchise.

Under the guise of director J.J. Abrams, it looks as if Star Wars is going to be done correctly this time, with less focus on special effects and more time on an exciting plot.

Another reason the upcoming series looks good is the fact that original cast members, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and of course Chewie are all back in action ready to stop the dark side.

It has been a long wait for us Star Wars fans but hopefully it is not a trap and the film is out of this galaxy.
