Food for thought for Cubs

Youngsters from the 93rd Braes visited Falkirk Food Bank to learn about the organisation.

The six to eight-year-olds weighed and categorised food, made up food parcels and sweetie bags, did a spot of map reading and had time for questions at the end of the evening.

While learning something new the beavers were able to include the experience as part of their Community Impact badge.

OVER at the 51st in Dennyloanhead plans are in hand for a night of ten pin bowling.

The Scouts outing to Camelon is part of Jambowlree, a worldwide Scouting 10 pin bowling competition.

All sections can take part in the event, with a separate competition for each section, including leaders. The competition runs until the end of May 2017.

A global map will be created tracking all entrants and at the end of the competition, scores will be added up and results published.

YOUNG leaders at the 89th are being rewarded for their hundreds of hours of volunteering.

Over the last two years they have helped run programmes which provided opportunities for the youth members in the Stenhousemuir area.

They took part in a number of activities on Rannoch Moor, Ariundle Oak Forest and Loch Lomond and helped younger members of the troop.

Brody Moreland, Jack Storrie, Aaron Timmons, Calum Fairbairn, Owen Erskine and Laurie Todd have all been put forward for the Falkirk CVS Saltire Ascent Award for individually giving 500 hours community service.

It is one of the highest local awards that can be offered for volunteering.

Scout leader Lance McCaffrey said: “They are the heart and soul of the success of the local scouting movement. They always bring such a great attitude and are keen to participate and support any crazy idea or amazing adventure we propose to the 89th troop.

“The young leaders have all participated in the different sections of scouting and enjoyed the varied outdoor activities that scouts has offered.”
