Time to find a new hobby in lockdown

Anyone else starting to feel a little like they have a starring role in Groundhog Day?

Week eight of lockdown is in full swing I believe and week ten is just around the corner.

But to be truthful I find myself constantly having to double check what day o f the week we are on at the moment.

Each day seems to roll into the next one, and the next one, and the next one.

Even the weekends are a bit of a blur, merging with the week days as we’re limited to where we can go and what we can do.

Not sure about everyone else, but for me it’s a case of getting up in the morning, getting organised for work as usual without leaving the house and then spending the day doing the work in front of the laptop and on the phone.

Of course, at some point each day I try and get outdoors for some fresh air and to stretch my legs – the fair weather has been making this much easier than it would if it was pouring with rain all the time.

In between the work and my daily exercise, as well as video calls with Emma and the kids and speaking to friends, I find myself spending a lot of time eating. Being so close to the kitchen all day makes it far too easy to reach for the snacks.

It definitely means that that daily exercise is required.

Anyway, I digress. This whole lockdown siuation has me getting into a new daily routine, but as I mentioned before it does feel like Groundhog Day.

The same things happening over and over, day in, day out.

It’s not that I’m finding myself getting bored, that’s definitely not the case.

But the repetition and not being able to just go out and do whatever I want is becoming a tad monotonous.

So I’ve decided that now is the time to try and break that cycle.

I need to find myself a new hobby. I just don’t know what yet!

A quick look online shows the possibilities of things to do are endless.

There are so many things that I could give a go – some I have a feeling I’d be better at than others.

I mean I’d love to hone my baking skills. Right now I don’t fancy my chances on The Great British Bake Off , but I’m sure with a little bit of practice I could improve. Trouble with this one is I can’t get my hands on a bag of flour anywhere at the moment.

And of course, it also wouldn’t help with my snacking situation either.

Then there’s a crafty skill I could teach myself, but I’ve never been all that creative. In my brain I may have an amazing image of what to create, but the reality is more often that not something far from that brilliant vision.

Another thing I’ve often fancied is the idea of learning a new language. I find myself envious of people who are multi-lingual.

I can barely string together a few words to order myself a drink when on holiday in Spain.

Perhaps that’s how I’ll spend my lockdown – online with a ‘teach yourself’ Spanish course. Maybe then by he time I’m next able to jet off to Spain – whenever that may be – I can communicate better with the locals and do more than just ask for another wine!
