NOT to let their time in lockdown go to waste a troop of Scouts created its own guidebook.

Scouts from the 27th Bonnybridge group were set the challenge of creating a guide to a favourite walk which they could then share with the rest of the group.

Assistant Scout leader David East said: “This term we asked the Scouts to map one of the walks/cycles they had done under lockdown.

“We gave them the deadline of the last meeting of the term to get their maps and routes to me.”

WITH restrictions still in place the push is now on for leaders to start producing risk assessments for all their proposed activities as well as an additional Covid 19 risk assessment.

Risk assessments will be agreed with each group Scout leader before it is passed to Falkirk District committee for approval.

Scouts Scotland has been working with UK headquarters, Youthlink Scotland and Public Health Scotland alongside the Scottish Government guidance to produce appropriate rules.

While some groups are hoping to start outdoor meetings, they will be sticking to strict guidelines laid down by Scouts UK with a maximum of 15 young people and leaders getting together at any one time.

At a recent GSL meeting questions were asked about the re-opening of Barrwood, a place which is normally very busy throughout the spring, summer and autumn. Until restrictions are lifted groups will not be allowed to meet at Barrwood.

So until then, it will just be a case of making sure all preparations are in place.

THERE are still opportunities to volunteer with Scouts Scotland and make an impact on young people.

An opportunity has arisen for someone to help lead Scouts Scotland as the Depute Chief Commissioner (Perception & Protect).

The organisation has a commitment to making sure the team is inclusive and diverse. Although black and ethnic minorities are particularly under-represented on the team, candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and communities are being encouraged to apply.
