Looking forward, lookingback

Normally at this time of year I’m reporting on closing displays and presentation evenings, highlighting the activities pursued over the past session. This year is very different with complete closure of all face-to-face meetings. However, as reported in the Falkirk Herald Local News, 8th Falkirk (Bainsford Church) managed to find an alternative way of concluding the session by using Zoom to bring together boys, guests, parents and officers; so marking the occasion with the virtual presentation of awards including two President’s Badges. Well done! Any other Companies using such lateral thinking? Do let me know. My only previous experience of trying to use Zoom to connect with family in Canada was to find myself unable to do so as that particular transatlantic airline with whom I had booked went bust! Another side of Lockdown seems to be taking the opportunity of clearing out and so it was a previous captain of 2nd Polmont (Old Church) found himself musing over his under 13 football team report of their game in Grangemouth. However it didn’t say who they were playing there in 1979! Still priding himself as being under 70, he suddenly realised that the ‘‘boys’’ whom he was recalling must now be in their early 50s. Anyone remember being in the 2nd Polmont under 13 football team then? News from the BB HQ indicates the continuing material available from #BB@HOME. What will social distancing mean over the coming months? The decision has been taken that there should be no face-to-face activities, events or meetings until at least the end of August including camps and ‘‘residentials’’ during the summer. Somewhat disappointing for any involved but the responsible approach to take. There is however encouragement to continue with the #BB@HOME use of material and keep everyone involved with responsible use of the online environment.
