‘Learn, grow and discover’ in lockdown

Mrs Ward, the OIC of the Junior Section at 2nd Polmont and battalion training convenor, tells me that although they had to stop face-to-face activities in March, they continue to offer opportunities for the young people to ‘‘learn, grow and discover’’. Members have been encouraged to use the #BBatHOME programme which is issued weekly by BB headquarters. As an example, the boys have made cards for neighbours and members of the church congregation to let them know they are thinking of them during this time of isolation. They were also encouraged to celebrate VE Day and a video was made to share with families and the church. The #BBatHOME ran a national competition called The Great BB Bake Off which attracted more than 200 entries. Several boys from the Company took part in this competition and Oliver Graham (pictured) from the Anchor Section was awarded first place in his age group and received a voucher for £50. The company has been running a weekly Facebook quiz for families. Each week a different family chooses which charity will receive the funds raised. So far they have raised almost £500 for charities including SAMH, Combat Stress, CHAS and Strathcarron Hospice. John Steel, formerly an officer with 4th Falkirk (Trinity Church) and a Battalion Queen’s Badge advisor, passed away on Wednesday June 17. Condolences from the battalion have been sent through the captain, Sandy Forsyth.
