Focussing on the true meaning of Easter

As shops gear up for the “eggs and bunnies” Easter images, now is the time for BB companies to focus on the true meaning of this most important Christian festival. To help officers who are less confident about delivering such an important topic central to our organisation, the Bible Society and the BB are offering new material suitable for younger members. The three titles available are ‘‘Three Friends and the Miracle Man’’, ‘‘The Seriously Surprising Story’’ and ‘‘The Super Cool Story of Jesus’’. These are available now from BB Supplies and from my time as an officer with boys, any material that can ease the ‘‘getting across’’ of our Christian Faith must be welcome. Headquarters has announced that, following an extensive review of the work we do, a new five year strategic plan based on what we have indicated we feel is important for the organisation to better advance will be unveiled at the Brigade conference at the Carr’s Lane Conference Centre in Birmingham on September 5. The conference is deliberately being staged as a one day event and as many as possible are encouraged to attend. The cost will be £30, including lunch, and applications have to be submitted by July 31. Yes, it is different this year. Hopefully more will be able to attend and air their views. Worth considering? BB Supplies have launched some new certificates for Anchors and Juniors; encouraging for sections that have perhaps fewer tangible records of achievements? Also caught my eye was a small ‘‘Star Fanfare’’ trophy which, at £4.30, is cheap enough and versatile for instances within companies when such a reward would be mappreciated. Coming soon are more battalion competitions; the Scottish final of the Masterteam quiz competition, in which we have local interest, as well as the advancing rounds of national table tennis and our defending teams in the national cross country at Buckie.
