BB Notes: Time to TurnAbout for BB companies

It celebrated the 100th anniversary of the introduction of juniors into the Boys’ Brigade in 1917, 34 years after its foundation in 1883.

It was led by a young Edinburgh minister in training, Stephen Allison, a former BB member from 1st Larbert (West Church).

The Christian Rock Band Rise, People’s Church puppets as well as BB members took part in worship before invited guests and amidst the lights and sounds captured on the big screens by Sanctus Media.
Such an event, thanks to sponsorship by the Church of Scotland, may not have been envisaged by our founder so long ago but along with discipline, embodied in activities such as drill, Christian worship still should be, and is, central to the object of the organisation. 
Our president Daniel Green is also the Battalion Christian Faith convenor and has just presided over our annual Pulpit Fall Christian Faith competition. He comments tha, despite the Bible being the best-selling book, that in quiz shows when that topic comes up answers are often wrong! The BB regularly teaches young men the basis of Christian faith and hopefully results in many more being familiar with its contents through regular reading. 
His job is difficult in framing such a competition to ensure enthusiasm is maintained yet the content not being too obscure as to cause discouragement in attending. It is encouraging results indicate many of those taking part still know their Bible well. There were three rounds in this year’s event based on the book of Matthew, the life of Jesus and general Bible knowledge. After a closely contested event, 1st Polmont retained the Pulpit Fall for a second year followed by teams from Falkirk, Grangemouth and Larbert.
