BB Notes: From football to BB mini-figures

So it was, ten dads and officers, 16 Company Section boys, nine Juniors and an Anchorman/boy left at 8am on April 10 for the Sunderland v Leicester match.

The captain, in a red and white woolly hat, took them to a photo-shoot with the Newcastle Chronicle and shopping at the club shop. Onwards and upwards they went, to the ‘nose-bleed’ seats in the stand with excellent views of the two Leicester goals. Unlikely to get lost, or at worst, shouting ‘Where’s Wally’ (it was that hat!) they re-boarded the bus for a recharging cold drink. Pity about the bus.

It required a jump start more than a cold drink!

On to Berwick for a McDonald’s but not for the driver, who nursed the ailing coach to avoid a relapse. The oldies slept on the last leg before a 9pm return after a smashing day thanks to driver Mr Scharer, Vision Travel for the bus, officers and dads of course.
Not every day do the BB get a mention in The Scotsman but it was the case twice recently. First, an interview with Perth-born football legend Bobby Moncur who captained every team he played for from his BB days in Kirkliston to Scotland but mostly with his beloved Newcastle United. Secondly, a report of 25th Stirling Company (Dunblane) raising £61,000 in a year to restore classrooms in Malawi.

Fundraising followed traditional means but also designing Lego mini-figures dressed in BB uniform which sold around the world, the highlight of which was an order for 500 figures from a company in Hong Kong! In June, boys from the Company will go to Malawi to finish work in the classrooms for 2000 pupils every day.

Yes, indeed the Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom, contained in the BB Object!
