The Tom Jones concert on Saturday reminded me of the first major gig at Falkirk Stadium.
On that occasion it was Elton John who was the star attraction and I had secured a couple of the prized tickets.
Unfortunately, I had also agreed to take part in the Edinburgh Moonwalk, which snaked 26.2 miles through the streets of the capital during the wee small hours.
When I say ‘agreed’, the reality was I boxed myself into a corner.
As the Herald was supporting the event, I’d nominated my then chief reporter Jill Buchanan to take part, mistakenly believing it was a women-only walk. When the truth dawned on me, I’d no option but to sign up myself.
My training was, at best, limited so it was with some trepidation I lined up in the pouring rain at midnight.
I did finish - at about 8am – but missed the concert and three days of work.
Jill, on the other hand, finished two hours ahead of me ... and was dancing with the best of them when Elton came on to the stage.
