Four senior officers have being picking up enhanced salaries in the two and a half years since John Mauger was placed on leave.

Central Scotland Police Assistant Chief Constable John Mauger has been ‘gardening leave’ for more the 30 months following allegations he was openly critical of his boss.

Gordon Samson was originally given the No.3’s role, before becoming temporary deputy chief constable in November 2011. The acting assistant chief constable is now Allan Moffat, with a chief superintendent in his role.

Derek Penman has been acting chief constable of Central Scotland since November 2011 when Chief Constable Kevin Smith was initially seconded to lead the national police reform. Since the appointment of Stephen House as the first chief constable for the new single Scottish police force, Mr Smith has been involved in his role as president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS).

However, a force spokesman said there was no “detrimental impact” on Central Scotland Police budget because it was recovered from ACPOS and the Scottish Government.
