Council bosses used an online ‘Quick Quote’ website to award over £136,000 worth of contracts in the space of two months.

The ‘shopping list’ approved by chief officers between September 1 and October 31 last year included the cost of having empty council houses plastered, replacing Christmas decorations, the seasonal hire of a loading shovel for winter and the design, manufacture and installation of a lift in a property in Kersiebank Avenue, Grangemouth.

Councillors were told in a report from Stuart Ritchie, director of corporate and housing sevices, that the system is used to demonstrate fairness and transparency and deliver best value. The use of the Public Contracts Scotland website is the recommended approach to secure an appropriate level of competition into the procurement process.
